Direct Energy, an electricity retailer in Houston, will layoff 54 employees this fall, Centrica, its parent company reported in a letter to the state.

A first round of 20 layoffs at Direct Energy’s Greenway Plaza location will begin Aug. 30, and another 34 workers will be laid off starting Sept. 16. The location will remain open, the company wrote in the letter to the Texas Workforce Commission.
