As you may have read, Ameren Illinois has embarked on an exciting, five-year, $3.5 billion plan to build a stronger, more reliable energy delivery system to serve you and your community for years to come (“Ameren Illinois overhauls natural gas infrastructure,” Aug. 24).
We’re fortifying utility poles, replacing distribution lines and gas transmission equipment and installing automated switches and sensors throughout our 43,700 square-mile territory. Additional improvements include upgrading electric and natural gas meters.
To be clear, there is no extra installation charge and no extra monthly fee for the meter upgrades that are taking place over the next five years.
Meter upgrades for customers served by our Ameren Illinois Springfield Operating Center are scheduled to begin in 2016. Customers will be notified before upgrades begin in their area.
Over time, these upgrades will improve service reliability and give customers information they can use to take control of their energy usage and costs. We’re also helping to build stronger communities and the workforce of tomorrow by adding more than 452 new Illinois jobs and deploying more than 1,200 Illinois-based contract workers to improve your energy service.
We’re here to serve you and we’re proud to be a part of your community. If you’d like to learn more about the work we’re doing, please visit AmerenIllinois.com/focus.
