NY public service panel to brief on gas supply

By: Associated Press |

With winter right around the corner and colder conditions forecast, New York’s Public Service Commission is looking at the supply of natural gas.

The commission will meet Thursday and report on the supply of the fuel.

The Energy Information administration reported last week that heating bills will rise 20 percent for heating oil customers, 15 percent for natural gas customers, 13 percent for propane customers and 5 percent for electricity customers.

U.S. Census Bureau statistics show more than 4 million households in New York heated with natural gas in 2011 compared with about 2 million that heated with oil. Other sources included electric, wood, solar, propane and coal.
